Classic Yacht Regatta, Antigua 2005 April 7
Tuesday April 05: The flying part wasn't any fun. Salt lake to Dallas, an hour there and then
on to Fort Lauderdale. Got to FLL a 2300ish. I elected to spend the night in the airport - I
assumed that it would take an hour to collect myself and get to a hotel, some time to get into
bed only to get up early enough to get back to the airport before 0730 for my 0830 flight to San
Juan. Would have been better if the public address system didn't whine every fifteen minutes or
so about unattended luggage. The airport was pretty much shut down so the PA was only talking
to those of us trying to sleep.
Wednesday April 06: Fort Lauderdale to San Juan. Fortunately for me, this was a relatively empty
flight. I moved to an unoccupied row and slept al the way to San Juan. An hour or so layover
in San Juan and then an hour flight to Antgua arriving at about 1300.
Tim met me at the airport. Off to the villa.
Staying at the villa rather than on the boat. Up every morning at about six. Have a tea on the
patio then breakfast of porage or cereal. Then, off for a swim in Mammora Bay - out to the derelict
boat (Jauharah,
Palm Beach, Florida) that was here on our last visit. Shower and tea or coffee then off to
the boat.
Bird List (such as it can be without the right bird book):
- dove (mourning ?)
- dove (the tiny one)
- bullfinch
- bananaquit
- crested hummer - Antillean Crested Hummingbird?

- grackle
The fan palm in a wind sounds like the chop that hits the dinghy.
