Classic Yacht Regatta, Antigua 2005 April 17 Sunday
Antigua 2k5 Apr 17 Sunday
Sixth in our class of eight yesterday.
The butterfly race was long and slow under light winds. Avrion
prefers stronger winds. Did better getting to the first mark and had good speed getting to the
second mark but we had to tack to starboard to go round it. The downwind leg was slow. We had
every thing out, poled genoa, code zero, main, large mizzen staysail, and the mizzen.
Good speed on all of the other legs but still finished 7th of 8 and number 8 didn't race.
Perhaps tomorrow.
After the race was the parade of classics through English Harbor. Just an excuse for a party I
think. David's wife Eve was on the dock as our cheering section.
Back to the dock for the standard refreshments. Liz went back to the villa while Tim, Kelly,
and I went to the Yacht Club for one drink that became three. Had my first real conversation
with helicopter Tim and his wife Sinead (she's a Trini and he's Canadian), and with Tommy who
is the AYC Commador.
Then off to the villa for dinner and all to bed.
