Double Weave

More experimenting with double weaves. The alternating weave above the blue above the stuffed tube, is closed at both ends and open at the top. I elected keep the top open. The draft is: 1; 1,2,3; 3; 1,3,4. It was made with two shuttles alternating though I no longer remember exactly how I did it. Above the alternate are a series of experiments. The pale stripe followed by the brown stripe is the Interlocked Double Weave. The switch between colors was made easy when I realized that to invert the colors, simply rotate the diagram 180°. Numbering remains the same (row 1 is the top row, read the draft top to bottom).

The last weave is a hand manipulated double weave where the weft threads are brought from opposite sides to a particular place in the warp. They are then brought through the warp and the shed changed. The threads are reinserted in the shed and carried to the sides opposite from where they started. Change the shed, repeat. Again, to swap the colors top and bottom, rotate the draft drawing 180°.

Update 2k9 Oct 19: Spent a few minutes figuring out how I did the alternating color double weave. The first two shots (1; 1,2,3;) are in the dark color and the next two shots (3; 1,3,4;) are in the light color. [More ...]
